Does the chaise have to go on the right?

No. The two seating pieces are separate, so the chaise can go on either end, sit in line with the loveseat, or stand on its own as a daybed.

Will the acacia stay this colour?

Untreated acacia weathers to a silver grey outdoors over a season or two. Keeping the honey tone means oiling it, which is a job for a dry weekend in spring.
