Every artificial tree is packed compressed, so the first job each year is bending hundreds of tips back out by hand. On a slim tree that is the difference between a full shape and a squashed one.

The tips here are built on memory wire, which the manufacturer describes as elastic and resistant to deformation over long term use. They open towards their intended shape on their own, so the fluffing is tidying rather than rebuilding.

Five feet, sixteen inches of floor

5 FT tall, 1.3 FT wide, on a 16 inch stand. That is narrower than most pencil trees, which typically run 19 to 23 inches across the bottom. It fits an alcove, the end of a hallway or the gap beside a bookcase.

What memory wire looks like

The right hand panel shows a branch being bent by hand. Memory wire is what lets it come back rather than staying bent, which matters most on a narrow tree where every branch is visible and there are only 295 of them to work with.

Two sections and a fitted bolt

The frame splits into two. The stand arrives with its bolt already in place, so there is no lining up a hole while holding the trunk upright. Both details are aimed at the same thing: getting it standing in a couple of minutes.

Elastic branches that hold their shape year after year per the manufacturer.

Superior PVC, described as fireproof, non-allergic and smell-free.

Narrower than most pencil trees, for the tightest spaces.

Two parts that fit together quickly and store flat.

The stand's bolt is fitted, so nothing has to be aligned during assembly.

A 16 inch metal stand rather than moulded plastic.

Sixteen inches of stand and a 1.3 ft spread fits where nothing else will.

Sprung branches mean the tree mostly shapes itself.

Unlit, so the colour, length and spacing are all yours.

What we stand behind

• Ornaments and gifts in the photography are not included. This tree has no lights.
• Height, width, stand size, tip count and section count come from the manufacturer's own specification and dimension graphic.
• Elastic and anti-deformation are the manufacturer's claims for the memory wire, not our testing.
• Ships from our United States warehouse, free shipping over $150, and 14 day returns unused in the original packaging.
• 14 day returns, unused and in the original packaging.

What is memory wire?

A branch wire sprung so it returns towards its original shape after being compressed in the box. The manufacturer describes it as elastic and anti-deformation in long term use. In practice it means less bending by hand each December.

Do I still have to shape it?

Some, yes. The branches open towards the right shape on their own, but the tips still want spreading out from the central wire so the tree looks full rather than flat.

How many lights should I buy?

That depends on the look you want, since this tree is unlit. Whatever you choose, Health Canada advises a string with a CSA, cUL or cETL mark and switching it off before bed.

How is it different from the other sizes?

The series gives 295, 392, 523 and 671 branch tips for the 5, 6, 7 and 8 ft sizes, in 2 or 3 sections. This listing is the 5 ft.
