Most outdoor tables have a rail or an apron running under the top, and most outdoor armchairs are too tall to clear it. The chairs stop at the table edge, sit six inches proud of where they should be, and the route past the table stays blocked all summer.

The top here rests directly on two U shaped skids set well inboard of the ends, with no apron between them. The armrests come in at 22 in across on a 30 in high table, so the chairs carry on in until the seat meets the edge instead of stopping short.

Two chairs down each long side and one at each end. At that layout the side places get about 34.5 in of table edge each, which is half as much again as the 24 in an everyday place setting needs, so serving dishes have somewhere to go down the middle.

The table on its own

69 in by 32 in at 30 in high, rated to 350 lb, on two black U shaped skids rather than four corner legs. The 2 in hole through the middle takes most market umbrella poles, and the manufacturer supplies a lid that drops in to close it when nothing is there.

Square armrests, woven right through

The arms on these chairs turn a square corner and carry the same weave as the rest of the frame, so there is no join between the arm and the body to work loose. The manufacturer calls it an L shaped handrail, and it is the detail that separates this set from its curved armed sibling.

Hand woven PE rattan in what the manufacturer calls mix brown, which reads considerably darker in daylight than the name suggests, closer to a deep coffee than a mid brown. Nice looking, anti fading and built to last are their three words for it, with no rating published behind any of them.

The acacia top sits straight on the metal skids, so there is nothing for an armrest to catch on.

Will the armchairs fit under the table?

There is no apron under this top and the metal skids sit inboard, so nothing crosses the front edge. The arms are 22 in apart on a 30 in high table, which is the clearance the set is designed around.

What colour is the rattan really?

The manufacturer calls it mix brown. In the photographs it reads as a very dark brown, close to a deep coffee rather than the mid brown the name suggests. Look at the daylight photographs rather than the swatch panel.

Will both boxes arrive together?

Not necessarily. The manufacturer ships this set in two packages and says the arrival times may vary. Each box carries its own screw bag, so do not start until both have landed.

How much umbrella pole does the hole take?

2 in across, which suits most market poles. Measure yours first, and remember that a base is a separate purchase because the hole alone will not hold an umbrella upright.
