Gold as the frame, not a trim

The metal does not just hold the seat: it runs up behind the back and wraps round it, so the gold is a line you follow rather than an edge. That is what makes a pair of these read as furniture rather than as bar stools.

Nine inches of travel

Twenty four inches wound down and 33 in wound up, with the footrest ring following from 8 in to 17 in. That span covers a low counter, a standard counter and a home bar from one pair of stools.

The parts underneath

A gas cylinder, an electroplated base and a rubber ring beneath it. Electroplating is a thin layer, so the ring is doing real work: it keeps the plated edge off the floor where it would wear through first.

Velvet at a bar

Velvet takes the light differently depending on which way the pile lies, which is why a grey one looks like several greys across the day. It also marks where it is brushed, and those marks lift with a soft brush rather than a cloth.

What we stand behind

• The 17 in by 17 in seat, the 9.5 in back, the 24 in to 33 in seat travel, the 8 in to 17 in footrest, the 15 in base and the 330 lb capacity all come from this listing's own drawing.
• The base is electroplated rather than solid brass. Plating is a thin layer, so the non slip ring under it matters more than it would on a painted base.
• No rub count, pile weight or cleaning code is published for the velvet.
• The maker calls the cartridge a premium gas lift cylinder but publishes no cylinder class or cycle count.
• Ships from our Canadian or United States warehouse, free shipping over $150, and 14 day returns unused in the original packaging.

How do I clean velvet?

Brush the pile in one direction with a soft brush and blot spills immediately. No cleaning code is published, so do not soak it or use solvent.

Will the gold wear off?

It is electroplated rather than solid, so the finish is a thin layer. The non slip ring under the base is what keeps the plated edge off the floor.

What tops do they suit?

Nine inches of travel from 24 in to 33 in covers a low counter, a standard counter and a home bar.

Does the footrest move with the seat?

Yes. The ring travels 8 in to 17 in as the column rises.
