It zips and is held with velcro, so it can be unfixed for cleaning. The maker does not state whether it is machine washable.

Does the lid stay open?

Yes. It is hinged rather than a lift off lid, and the panel shows it propped while the cabinet is loaded.

Will the cushions all fit in it?

No capacity is published, so treat the 26 in cube as the only certain figure. Back cushions are the bulky ones and are worth measuring against it if that is your main reason for buying.

Can the pieces be split into two smaller groups?

Yes. The maker photographs the same eight pieces as a long row with an armchair, and as a four seat sofa with a loveseat. Nothing is bolted together.
